On March 1, an 87-year-old patient with comorbidities, including hypertension, asthma, and acute kidney injury, passed away in the south Indian state of Karnataka, marking the state's first reported death from H3N2.

Another individual in the north Indian state of Haryana, who had lung cancer, also succumbed to the virus.


Cases Expected to Decline

The Union Health Ministry in India has stated that cases of the influenza virus will decline by the end of March.

The symptoms of the influenza virus are similar to those of COVID-19, such as cough, runny nose, fever, and sore throat.




Preventive Measures:

Preventive measures advised by health officials to reduce the risk of contracting the influenza virus include frequently washing hands, avoiding contact with infected individuals, and staying away from crowded areas.


Duration of Infection:

According to the Indian Medical Organization, the infection typically lasts between five to seven days and can impact individuals under the age of 15 and those over the age of 50.
